To set up an analog mixer, place the mixer on a stable surface and make sure all channel gains, faders, and the main output are turned down before connecting any equipment. Connect your microphones, instruments, and other audio sources to the appropriate input channels, then connect the main outputs to powered speakers or an amplifier. If you are using condenser microphones, enable phantom power (+48V); leave it off for most dynamic microphones. Turn on the mixer first, then power on the speakers or amplifier. One channel at a time, have the speaker or performer produce sound while slowly increasing the gain until the signal is strong without clipping. Set the channel faders and the main fader to the desired level, then adjust the EQ to improve the sound by making small changes to the low, mid, and high frequencies. Use the pan control to position audio in the left or right speaker if needed, and test every input to ensure the sound is clear, balanced, and free of distortion or feedback before use.
