The Allen & Heath iLive T112 (the big mixer) with iDR64 MixRack (the black box) is a professional digital mixing system used to control and manage sound for concerts, events, and performances. The iDR64 MixRack is the main part of the system because it contains the microphone inputs, audio processing, and outputs, while the T112 is the control surface used by the sound operator to adjust the settings. To set up the system, connect the T112 to the iDR64 using the correct connection cable, turn on the iDR64 first, and then turn on the T112. Connect microphones, instruments, and other audio devices into the inputs on the iDR64. Once everything is connected, select each channel on the T112 and adjust the gain so the audio signal is strong but does not become distorted. Use the channel controls to adjust the EQ, which changes the bass, middle, and high frequencies, and use compression to help keep the volume levels more consistent. The faders are used to control how loud each channel is in the overall mix. The main outputs from the iDR64 connect to amplifiers or powered speakers so the audience can hear the sound, while auxiliary outputs can be used to create separate mixes for stage monitors so performers can hear themselves. The T112 uses different layers to organize channels, allowing the operator to switch between microphones, instruments, effects, and other parts of the system. The built-in effects, such as reverb and delay, can be added to improve the sound. Before a performance, the operator should label the channels, set the correct input levels, create monitor mixes, adjust the sound, and save the setup so it can be used again later. When turning the system on, always start with the mixer and turn on the amplifiers or speakers last, and when shutting down, turn off the amplifiers or speakers first. Learning how audio travels through the system, how to adjust levels, and how to control the different settings are the basic skills needed to operate the Allen & Heath iLive T112 and iDR64.
